Troubleshooting

“Health access not authorized”. WorkoutGPX was never given access. Tap Request Health Permission and allow at least Workouts and Workout Routes. If nothing appears, iOS has already asked once: open the Health app, tap your picture at the top, then Apps and WorkoutGPX, and turn the categories on. Open Health Settings opens the Settings app for the same purpose.

“No workouts found”. Nothing in the list matches the filters. Tap a wider quick range such as Last Year, then Apply Filters, and tap All under Workout Types. If the list is still empty, Health may not be sharing workouts with WorkoutGPX: Check Health permissions under the message leads to the same settings as above.

A workout is missing. Look at the line above the list:

  • “3 without GPS hidden”: the workout has no route in Health. Turn on Show workouts without GPS in the filters to see it.
  • The dates it names do not include the workout: change the dates and tap Apply Filters. After changing dates, the list fills in only with that tap.

A workout has no route. Its row is gray with a crossed-out location symbol, and opening it shows No route data available: “This workout doesn’t contain GPS data that can be exported”. Indoor workouts have none, and some apps that record outdoor workouts keep the route to themselves instead of saving it to Health. There is nothing to export; check the recording app’s Health settings for an option to write routes.

“Nothing to Export”: “The whole route is within the hidden start and end.” The route is shorter than the two stretches Hide Start and End leaves out. Choose a shorter distance in the workout’s view options menu, or Off.

“Some Workouts Were Skipped”. Some of the selected workouts had no GPS route, or their route could not be read; the alert names up to five. Share 9 Files shares the ones that worked.

The file has no heart rate. Include Sensor Data is off in Settings, or Health holds no heart rate for the time of the workout. Cadence and cycling power need iOS 17. A reading more than 15 seconds from every point is left out. See What’s in the GPX file.

The numbers differ in Strava or Garmin Connect. Each service measures distance and climb from the points its own way, and some replace the heights with their own terrain data. The points in the file are the ones Health recorded.

A shortcut says “Health data is locked while your iPhone is.” iOS locks Health data while the iPhone is locked. Unlock it and run the shortcut again; see Shortcuts.

The GPX Explore button opens the App Store. GPX Explore is not installed on this device. Install it from the page that opens, then tap the button again.

I can’t find my exports. In the Files app, tap Browse, then On My iPhone (or On My iPad), then WorkoutGPX.

An error with Try Again on a workout’s screen. Health could not read the route just then. Tap Try Again.
