Shortcuts

WorkoutGPX adds two actions to the Shortcuts app. Both make the same files as the buttons in the app, with the units, sensor data and hidden start and end chosen in Settings, and both hand the files to the next action: Save File, Send Message, AirDrop, or anything else that takes files. Copies stay in the WorkoutGPX folder in Files too.

Open WorkoutGPX once and allow Health access before using them; the actions read Health with the access the app was given.

Reads “Export latest Workout Type workout” and makes one GPX file of your most recent workout that has a GPS route. Leave Workout Type empty for any kind, or choose one:

Workout Type Includes
Running runs and wheelchair runs
Walking walks and wheelchair walks
Hiking hikes
Cycling rides and hand cycling
Swimming open-water swims (pool swims have no route)
Paddling paddle sports
Rowing rowing
Skiing downhill and cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snow sports
Skating skating
Sailing sailing

It looks through your 25 most recent workouts of that kind, passing over those without a route.

Siri knows it without setting anything up: say “Export my latest workout with WorkoutGPX” or “Export my last workout in WorkoutGPX”.

Reads “Export Workout Type workouts from Start Date to End Date” and makes one GPX file for each workout with a GPS route between the two dates, both days included, oldest first. Workout Type works as above. A workout whose whole route falls within the hidden start and end is left out; the others still export.

With a personal automation, every Apple Watch workout becomes a file without opening the app:

  1. In the Shortcuts app, tap Automation, then + or New Automation.
  2. Choose Apple Watch Workout, then Ends, and any workout type. Choose Run Immediately.
  3. Add WorkoutGPX’s Export Latest Workout.
  4. Add Save File and pick a folder, in iCloud Drive for example, with Ask Where to Save off.
Message What to do

No workout with a GPS route in those dates. Widen the dates or clear the Workout Type.
Health data is locked while your iPhone is. Unlock it and run the shortcut again. Unlock and run it again.
The GPX file could not be made: … The reason follows; for a route that is all start and end, lower Hide Start and End.
