GPX Explore has no account, no ads and no analytics. Your GPX files are files on your device, or in iCloud Drive if you keep them there, and every number on the card, the chart and the splits is computed on your device.

These features reach outside your device:

  • Map: tiles and imagery come from Apple Maps for the area you view, and for exported pictures and file icons, which are drawn on an Apple map of the track’s area.
  • Find a Place: what you type goes to Apple Maps.
  • Following paths and roads: with Walking, Cycling or Driving chosen, the two ends of each leg go to Apple Maps for directions. Straight Lines sends nothing.
  • Elevation: when you draw, trace or add points, or choose Replace Elevation or Elevation from Terrain, the coordinates of those points (nothing else: no times, names or sensor data) go to our elevation server at elevationapi.geosq.com, which answers with their heights. Turn off Look Up Elevation for New Points to stop the automatic lookups.
  • GPX Explore Pro: the purchase goes through the App Store.
  • Location: with Show My Location on, your position is used on your device to show the blue dot. GPX Explore does not send it anywhere.

Opening and viewing a file sends nothing but the map requests. Quick Look previews on the Mac draw without a network at all.
