The start screen and the welcome window
On iPhone and iPad
Section titled “On iPhone and iPad”Geo Measure opens on its start screen, over Geo Measure’s fields.
- Measure an Area: a new document with a new area, ready for you to tap the corners.
- Measure a Distance: the same with a distance, in straight lines or along roads and paths.
- Walk the Boundary: walks the edge with the phone in your pocket. It carries a Pro tag until you have Geo Measure Pro.
- Open a File…: a Geo Measure document, or a GPX, KML or GeoJSON file, from Files.
- Open the Sample: Central Park, Fifth Avenue and the Reservoir: an area, a distance and a circle. It opens a copy each time, so try anything on it.
- Recent Files: what you opened or saved lately, each with its thumbnail. Tap one to open it; touch and hold for Remove from Recent Files.
- The gear at the top right opens Settings.
Home in the document menu (tap the document’s name at the top left) goes back to the start screen. A new measurement you never saved asks first: Save First… or Discard. During a walk, Stop it first.
A file opened from Files, Mail or Messages skips the start screen and opens on the map. On Apple Vision Pro, Geo Measure opens straight on the map.
On the Mac
Section titled “On the Mac”On macOS 15 and later, Geo Measure opens with a welcome window instead of an empty document.
- New Measurement: a new document window, for an area, a distance or a circle.
- Open a File…: the Open panel, for Geo Measure documents (and the older .measure files), GPX, KML and GeoJSON.
- Open the Sample: Central Park, Fifth Avenue and the Reservoir, a copy each time.
- Recent Files, on the right, with each file’s thumbnail: double-click one, or select it and press Return or Open. Right-click one for Open and Show in Finder.
The window closes when a document opens. Turn off Show at launch to start with an empty document instead (also in Settings › General › Opening Geo Measure). Window › Welcome to Geo Measure (⇧⌘0) brings the window back at any time. On macOS 14, Geo Measure opens an empty document as before.
