Geo Tracker has no account, no servers, no ads and no analytics, and it collects nothing. Your routes are GPX files in the app’s folder on your device. They leave it only when you share a file, save a workout to Apple Health, or turn on the copy to your own iCloud Drive.

  • Your tracks, in Files ▸ On My iPhone ▸ Geo Tracker ▸ Tracks, each with its photos in a folder beside it. Delete them in Geo Tracker or in Files whenever you like.
  • A recording in progress, written point by point into the app’s private storage until you save or discard it.
  • The list’s memory of each file’s numbers and place name, and your settings.

Location while using the app (never Always: a recording you started carries on in the background by itself), notifications for the reminder, Motion & Fitness for the barometer, the camera and your photos for waypoint photos, and Apple Health when you choose to save a workout. Each is asked when it is first needed, and the app works without any of the optional ones. See Start here.

  • The map is Apple Maps, loaded for the area on screen.
  • The place in the list (Medford, Blue Hills Reservation) comes from asking Apple’s geocoder for the area around each track’s first point, once per track, the way any map app names a place. Geo Tracker keeps the area or the town, never a street address, and sends nothing else.
  • Apple Health receives a workout only when you choose Save to Apple Health; Geo Tracker reads back only the workouts it wrote itself.
  • iCloud Drive receives a copy of each track when Copy Tracks to iCloud Drive is on, into your own iCloud Drive, which only you see.
  • The pages under Also from ObjectGraph, and GPX Explore’s page when it is not installed, come from the App Store.

ObjectGraph receives nothing: not your routes, not your photos, not how you use the app.

A GPX file carries your route with the time of every point, your speed along it, your waypoints with their names and notes, and a line naming the app that recorded it. The photos in Share Track with Photos carry the place they were taken in their metadata. Before you share a route that starts at home, open it in GPX Explore and trim the ends.
