Files and iCloud
On iPhone, iPad and Vision Pro, Geo Measure works on one document at a time. Save asks where to put a new document: on the device, in iCloud Drive, or anywhere in Files. After that, changes save themselves a moment after you make them and when you leave the app, and a document in iCloud Drive picks up changes made on another device. New or Open… with unsaved shapes asks first: Save First… or Discard.
On the Mac, documents behave like any Mac document: a window each, autosaved, with File › Revert To for earlier versions. Save in iCloud Drive to open the same file on iPhone and iPad.
Other files. Opening a GPX, KML or GeoJSON file, or a .measure document, makes a new, unsaved document named after it. The first save asks where to put the .geomeasure file; the original is never written over.
The format. A .geomeasure file is GeoJSON: an area is a closed Polygon, a distance a LineString, a circle a Point with a radius, each with its name, colour and values, plus the document’s units. A routed shape also records which points you tapped and each leg’s mode, so a reopened file still re-routes when you drag a point.
