Units and map styles

Each document keeps its own units, shown as menus at the top of the panel (View ▸ Units on the Mac):

  • Distance: kilometres, miles, metres, feet, nautical miles or yards.
  • Elevation: metres or feet.
  • Area: acres, ares, hectares, square feet, yards, metres, miles or kilometres, or tsubo.

Beside them is the document’s elevation data, Mapzen or ASTER (Elevation ▸ Data Source on the Mac); see Accuracy and the data.

New documents start with the units chosen in Settings.

Standard, Satellite, Hybrid, Satellite 3D, Hybrid 3D and Muted, from the map button in the toolbar (View ▸ Map Style, ⌥⌘1 to ⌥⌘6 on the Mac), also kept per document.

Shape Labels writes each shape’s name and figure on the map; Side Lengths writes the length of every side of the selected shape. Both are in the View menu on the Mac and in Settings everywhere.
